An eight-room seniors’ complex is set to open this fall in the old Auberge Mont Blanc building at 37 Calumet in Portage. Manoir Meril will feature eight private suites, a full dining room, living room, and activity lounge.
“This new facility offers an opportunity for local seniors to live comfortably close to home. I hope it also entices people of retirement age to come back to the area,” said owner Pierre Jolicoeur.
Building and renovations have been underway since March with an opening date projected for September 1, 2021. “The rooms are beautiful,” said Jolicoeur. “Each resident will have a private entrance and bathroom facilities. This is an independent living facility. Our staff will serve meals and take care of the housekeeping”
A native of Calumet Island, Jolicoeur owned three nursing homes in southern Ontario before retiring in the Pontiac and opening Manoir Meril. It is named after his father.
Future plans for the site include an expansion to include 16 bachelor apartments on the land behind the building.
Prospective residents interested in viewing the facility can make an appointment to visit between August 5 and 15, 2021 buy making an appointment. Call 819-259-1275.
